"Rouse's
boundary-breaking music

musical future."

O'Connor, VOGUE
Mikel Rouse Broken Consort's third release finds the combo
more experimental than ever. Recorded after Rouse's groudbreaking
Quorum for Linn Drum machine, the ensemble couldn't resist
showing that the device could be used for something other
than square 4/4 beats. A Lincoln Portrait also features the
recording debut of avante sax genius Ellery Eskelin on soprano
sax. The track Quick Thrust, a twelve tone row piece, exemplifies
the wild fusion of styles that are all over this recording.
Upon its release, Vogue Magazine said: "Rouse's boundary-breaking
music has him poised on the cusp of our musical future." Upon
its release, A Lincoln Portrait got an A- in the Village
Voice, the same week that the newly released Tirez Tirez
album Against All Flags received Pop Album of the Week in
the New York Times.
